A study in the word May 15th
“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
(Psalm 139:13-14)
A fun note: The word for reins (inward parts In NASB, inner most being in NIV) is the Hebrew word for kidneys, which culturally amounts to one’s heart, one’s soul, the part of you that makes you, you. Still that is neither here or there so let us continue.
The Lord is truly amazing to have created us. Each of us is unique. It is a fact of life that even identical twins are not the same. They have slightly different personalities and while sure genes play a part of it, they are still unique.
Each and every one of us is special. God has formed each of us to be unique. God has also created our bodies. Even Identical twins do not have the same finger prints [1]. God’s creativity is endless and worthy of praise. Indeed we should praise God because he has created each and every one of us and while we may not have the exact body we want, God created everyone for a reason and as such your body is unique and suited just for you.
From the above point, we are to also protect our bodies and treat them with respect. They are not of our own doing. If it was we could collect the materials needed to make a human body (Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Calcium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sulphur, Sodium, Magnesium, and various trace elements [2]) and put them together in the shape of a body, and still not come up with a human. An integral part of the body is missing, the soul. The soul is that breath of life given by God and without it a body is just a lump of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen basically. Thus, treat your bodies with respect, do not destroy it on purpose and use it to glorify God.
Praise God for the fact that you are alive. Praise him for the fact that you have the breath of life. Praise him for the fact that you continue to breathe. God has created each and every one of us. We are each fearfully and wonderfully made. Let us in each day take in that fact that we are created in such a manner. Once we all think about it we realize this and we can praise God for his works, for his continued mercies each day.
